The GDPR is relevant to any globally operating company and not just the EU-based businesses and EU residents. Our customers’ data is important irrespective of where they are located, which is why we have implemented GDPR controls as our baseline standard for all our operations worldwide. ## **What is personal data?** Any data that relates to an identifiable or identified individual. GDPR covers a broad spectrum of information that could be used on its own, or in combination with other pieces of information, to identify a person. Personal data extends beyond a person’s name or email address. Some examples include financial information, political opinions, genetic data, biometric data, IP addresses, physical address, sexual orientation, and ethnicity. The Data Protection Principles include requirements such as: - Personal data collected must be processed in a fair, legal, and transparent way and should only be used in a way that a person would reasonably expect. - Personal data should only be collected to fulfil a specific purpose and it should only be used for that purpose. Organizations must specify why they need the personal data when they collect it. - Personal data should be held no longer than necessary to fulfil its purpose. - People covered by the GDPR have the right to access their own personal data. They can also request a copy of their data, and that their data be updated, deleted, restricted, or moved to another organization. ## **Why is GDPR important?** GDPR adds some new requirements regarding how companies should protect individuals' personal data that they collect and process. It also raises the stakes for compliance by increasing enforcement and imposing greater fines for breach. Beyond these facts it's simply the right thing to do. At Bungalow Digital we strongly believe that your data privacy is very important and we already have solid security and privacy practices in place that go beyond the requirements of this new regulation. ## **Individual Data Subject's Rights - Data Access, Portability and Deletion** We are committed to helping our customers meet the data subject rights requirements of GDPR. Bungalow Digital processes or stores all personal data in fully vetted, DPA compliant vendors. We do store all conversation and personal data for up to 6 years unless your account is deleted. In which case, we dispose of all data in accordance with our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, but we will not hold it longer than 60 days. We are aware that if you are working with EU customers, you need to be able to provide them with the ability to access, update, retrieve and remove personal data. We got you! We've been set up as self service from the start and have always given you access to your data and your customers data. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand Good things come in 3s, such is the nature of the 3rd issue of our publication. During my conversations with many of you (now new) fans of this newsletter I have come to see the spirit of trust that resides in so many of you. The spirit that understands creation is about trust, God trusted (sadly) humanity to follow the orders and decrees he had placed before us. We as humans consistently break that trust, but I believe that the biggest leap of faith for the Christian artist is telling God you trust that he will supply you through the art he has steeped into our minds. This is a sentiment that I aspire to receive and am continuously receiving from each and every one of you who reaches out to me. The trusting of God into the vast world of art reminds me of this verse "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will." The pattern of this world is to break down artists so much that they believe that they must subjugate themselves to lives they don't want to live simply to fit within the capitalistic framework of modern society, growing up we all heard "okay but what are you going to do to make money." Rejecting that notion and going out and building something for yourself is testing God's will for you on this earth, which is already done in heaven. **Section 2 - thoughts and ideas** [Interview with Artist Preston Douglas BoyerPreston Douglas Boyer (b.1995) is a multidisciplinary artist who works between painting, fashion, and performance, whose work considers how these forms are physical manifestations of the spiritual journey. I, for one, couldn’t be happier about it. With the announcement of “*EPIC: the Musical”* becoming an animated feature, the third season of Percy Jackson releasing this fall, and most notably the cultural phenomenon that was Nolan’s *“The Odyssey,”* lovers of Greek mythology just seem to keep winning. However, one more mythological retelling has been surpassing records and has already made history as the highest grossing live capture of any Broadway show. That title belongs to Anaïs Mitchell’s hit musical: *“Hadestown.”* *“Hadestown”* is a reimagining of the story of Orpheus and Eurydice and although the Broadway musical is one of the most unique renditions of the myth I’ve seen, it is not the first time the two ill-fated lovers have had their story adapted within recent years. Some of the most iconic retellings of the 20th century are Cocteau’s “Le Sang d’un Poète” (the Blood of a Poet), Camus’ “Orfeu Negro” (Black Orpheus), and J.R.R. Tolkien’s “Sir Orfeo.” In case you are unfamiliar with this story, the Greek tragedy follows Orpheus, a musician born of a Muse and the god, Apollo, and a nymph named Eurydice. When they meet, the two fall in love and quickly wed. However, they do not have the luxury of growing old together. As the myth goes, soon after their wedding day, Eurydice gets bitten by a snake and perishes from its poison. Upon hearing the news of his bride’s demise, Orpheus refuses to live in a world without Eurydice and immediately conjures a plan to journey to the underworld to make Hades return his bride to him. With nothing but his own two legs and his lyre, Orpheus journeyed the road to hell. As he walked to the underworld, Orpheus played music and the melodies he played were so beautiful that stones wept, breaking apart the earth for him. His songs charmed the ferryman, Charon, soothed Cerberus, and eventually, when Orpheus came before Hades, the god of the underworld was touched by the music as well. When Orpheus made his plea, Hades allowed Orpheus to return back to Earth with Eurydice under one condition: Orpheus must lead the way, Eurydice must remain behind, and Orpheus *cannot* turn around to see if she’s following. This time, the journey proved more treacherous. Plagued with anxiety, Orpheus never knew for certain if Eurydice was close behind him. When they were near the end and daylight broke through the dark, Orpheus turned around only to watch as his true love was dragged back to the underworld. Death, though Orpheus tried to defy it, would now forever keep his beloved from his embrace. It is said he spent the rest of his days composing songs of grief. *“It’s an old song, it’s a sad song, it’s a love song,”* goes a refrain from the hit jazz musical. Over the years, *“Hadestown”* has easily found a loyal fanbase since its release in 2010 and then again on Broadway in 2019\. Yet, there has been a point of contention among the faithful viewers, one that always results in fierce debate: “Why would Orpheus turn around?” Many cannot wrap their head around the fact that Orpheus would turn around despite explicitly being told not to. However, a common phrase I’ve seen these past couple of months is: “an Orpheus that doesn’t turn around is an Orpheus who never loved Eurydice.” Some agree with this while others adamantly disagree, specifying that Orpheus turned because he wasn’t convinced of Eurydice’s love for him. His doubt caused her descent back to hell. ![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/34/b5/34b542d7-662a-4b6d-b229-2d284cd24c37/content/images/2026/08/hadestown_2024-1200x600-NYTG.png) **“Hadestown”* No matter which side of the coin one falls on, as *“Hadestown”* continues to grow in popularity, I cannot help but relish in hearing all the different interpretations people have. Because at the end of the day, this ancient tale is fundamentally a great example of what it means to be *human*. If we’re scared, we instinctively turn and search for the ones we love. After performing on stage, we search the crowd for our friends and family. When we have a long day at work, we pick up our phones and can’t wait to hear our loved one's voice on the other side. It’s second nature. Whether in a song, movie, a book, or even in real life, have you ever heard a person say to another: *“You are my other half”*? In case you were not aware, that saying is a concept coined by the ancient Greeks. They believed that humans were first created with two heads, fours arms and four legs. In fear that humanity would grow too powerful in their ‘original’ form, it was said that the god Zeus cut people in half and ordered Apollo to refashion them into the forms we have today. But when this happened, humanity was devastated from the brutal division: > “Now, when their nature was divided in two, each half in longing rushed to the other half of itself and they threw their arms around each and intertwined them, desiring to grow together into one, dying of hunger and inactivity too because they were unwilling to do anything apart from one another.” To this, the Athenian playwright, Aristophanes, continues his speech in Plato’s Symposium and stated that *“each \[person\] then is but the token of a human being, sliced like a flatfish, two from one; each then ever seeks his matching token.”* Now, I do not believe that there’s another human being out there who will complete me. I am not a puzzle piece. I am not a ‘half’ in desperate need of finding my other half. But, in this one aspect, the ancient Greeks and I are in agreement: ***To be human means searching for the one you love.*** ![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/34/b5/34b542d7-662a-4b6d-b229-2d284cd24c37/content/images/2026/08/IMG_6710-1.jpg) **Reunion between friends, Spring 2024* As an avid fan, I was beyond excited to watch the *“Hadestown”* pro-shot in theatres and even forced my brother to come with me. To say I was blown away by the set design, the performance of each actor, and the film’s cinematography would be a massive understatement. I was left speechless the entire way through and by the end of it, there was nary a dry eye left in that theatre (consider this as a warning to bring tissues). But, unexpectedly, when the credits rolled, I could only think of one thing: *Jesus is the only man who successfully rescued His Bride from the depths of Hell.* As it says in Ecclesiastes 3:11, eternity is written on the heart of man. Whether one has faith in Jesus or not, I truly believe that every person longs for a love that cannot be satisfied by another here on Earth. Unknowingly, Mitchell’s *“Hadestown”* is proof that – if ever we found ourselves in the same shoes as Eurydice – we all desire a great love. A love that would set them on journey to Hell to bring us back to the land of the living. We would want our partner to defy the devil himself. We would want our lover to bring us back home. We would want our spouse to do whatever it took to be reunited as one in matrimony again. That is exactly what Jesus did when He came to earth. Jesus came to rescue us from darkness and to give us eternal life (John 3:16-21). Jesus defied Satan himself (Revelation 1:17-18). Jesus gave us access to the Father and enabled us to be seated with Him in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:1-8; Hebrews 10:19-25). Jesus obeyed God so that humanity could be made one with Him again (John 17; 2 Peter 3:9). Like the Good Shepherd He is, it’s in God’s nature to search for the lost because He is abundant in grace, lovingkindness, and mercy. God is incapable of acting unlike Himself; therefore, we can always have confidence that when we wander off, He will do everything in His power to go after us (Luke 11:32). As I continue revisiting this musical, I end up growing all the more convinced that the human heart is forever crying out to find a perfect, unfailing love. I think one of the greatest traps we can fall prey to nowadays is the notion that we can only find fulfillment in another person, be it a friend, family member, or partner. Though I am firm advocate for community and I do believe that we were made for connection, I also believe that our souls can only find true satisfaction in the God that created it. In God, we belong. Because of His enduring love, we can live forevermore. More than that, because of Jesus, death and Hades is still robbed of the power they once had. Jesus' passion for His people is the greatest and most powerful love story this world will ever know. ### Interview with Artist Preston Douglas Boyer URL: https://www.theartnewsletter.com/interview-with-artist-preston-douglas-boyer/ Last updated: 2026-08-28T20:50:43.000Z Preston Douglas Boyer (b.1995) is a multidisciplinary artist who works between painting, fashion, and performance, whose work considers how these forms are physical manifestations of the spiritual journey. His paintings are both remnants of performances and starting points for installations, addressing how surfaces can allude to both beauty and darkness through examining contemporary cultural conviction. What follows is our conversation, lightly edited for clarity. --- **Wolfgang:** Why don't you tell me more about yourself, your art, your story? I saw one of your videos on Instagram and thought it was really interesting. **Preston:** Christian art often gets put into a box, and just having that as a genre itself is limiting. It's like, there are artists, musicians, actors, architects, creative individuals who happen to be Christian. That's a more interesting frame than being boxed into "this is how the work is going to be understood." **Wolfgang:** Would you say you put yourself in that category, a Christian artist, or would you say you're an artist who happens to be Christian? **Preston:** I'm an artist. God is an artist. I just happen to be Christian, and honestly, that's newer for me than people might assume. I was raised in the church in Houston and had some resentment growing up, not deep, nothing terrible, not like the horrible experiences some people have in church. I just felt like it was what we did, and I didn't have a choice in it or really understand it. Then I got sober at 19, and through the twelve-step process — the whole point of which is to build a relationship with God so you don't go back to the addiction — that really began my spiritual journey. I became genuinely Christian-curious again about five or six years ago, living in New York, mostly through worship music. During COVID I was listening to Joel Osteen constantly, it resonated because it was almost "Christianity light," messages of hope and victory, and I needed that. I went to Lakewood for the first time around then. I grew up a mile away and never would have gone because of all the memes I'd seen online about it. I had a genuine spiritual experience there and remember thinking, this is more powerful than any art exhibition or performance I've been to in years. That's when I got more interested in listening to pastors and worship music than in artistic discourse, the weight of what they were talking about felt more substantial. Still, I didn't actually start reading the Bible until about nine months ago. I was home, struggling with some things, and opened up the kids' Bible I'd been confirmed with in the Methodist church back in sixth grade, hadn't touched it in twenty years. Reading it for the first time really opened the floodgates. I'd been attending church every week leading up to that but never actually read the word, like writing a book report without reading the book, which is basically how I got through high school. That changed things. When I moved back to LA in January, I picked that Bible back up and asked God directly: Jesus, if you're real, I need you to show me. That's been my biggest hang-up with Christianity for twelve years: I'd had a relationship with God for about ten years through recovery, without really having a relationship with Jesus specifically. That night I got up for a glass of water and looked at the clock: 3:16\. I didn't think much of it. Next night, same thing: 3:16 again. That was the point everything flipped for me. I started accepting Jesus as God, looking into the historical and academic accounts, reading the word, and just having the Holy Spirit reside in me through that process. Things shifted immensely. Becoming a father is tied into all of this too. ![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/34/b5/34b542d7-662a-4b6d-b229-2d284cd24c37/content/images/2026/08/image-2.png) **Purpose Prevailed, 2026* **Acrylic and collage on linen and organza* My current work is the testimony paintings, which relate directly to that personal testimony. I got the vision for them in a hot spring, which is usually when I get visions, making paintings out of pages of the Bible, including the Book of Enoch and other apocrypha, the kind of texts contemporary Christians aren't really supposed to know about. That's always been my instinct: I want to know what I'm not supposed to know, to be at the forefront of things. Art used to feel punk rock. Fashion used to feel punk rock. Now Christianity feels extremely punk rock. It's cyclical — the Catholic Church is historically the biggest art collector in the world, so it's fun watching it come back into the fold. I've been collecting Ethiopian Bibles, which include apocryphal texts alongside the official canon, plus King James Bibles and more mainstream Western Bibles, and making paintings out of that material, literally working with the text. Some people read that as sacrilegious, some read it as simply Christian painting. I love those conversations either way. For me, while I'm making the work, I'm usually listening to Christian podcasts or worship music, and it becomes meditation — prayer, really. Dealing with the word in a much more intimate way than I used to. ![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/34/b5/34b542d7-662a-4b6d-b229-2d284cd24c37/content/images/2026/08/image.png) **Mercy Every Morning*, 2026 Acrylic, collage, and thread on satin, organza, linen, and canvas **Wolfgang:** That's beautiful. What was your path into the art world, when did you start as an artist, and what did that process look like from before you were Christian to now? **Preston:** Neither Houston nor Seguin (Seguin, Texas a small town where Wolfgang was born) are historically art-centric places, Houston more so. I actually started in middle school making YouTube videos about sneakers, before sneaker culture was cool. I got made fun of relentlessly for wearing colorful shoes. Skateboard culture, hip-hop, basketball, rock and roll: sneakers were the culmination of everything I was into. That was my first real entry into visual culture. From sneakers into streetwear, streetwear into luxury fashion, and then I became a celebrity stylist in Houston. Rappers passing through town would hit me up. Eventually I got bored of being a consumer, because I was an artist all along, and I started my own fashion brand before everyone and their mother had one. I had no idea what I was doing, I just did it: started around 2012 or 2013, got sober in 2014, and launched my first collection about nine months after that. Within three years I was invited to meet with Vogue at the World Trade Center. I was going to school in Houston at the time, showing my third collection, and they told me, "Preston, you're an artist, not a fashion designer." I was confused. Years later, living in New York, I realized they were right: the fashion projects were always art projects. Conceptual, sentimental, cathartic bodies of work more than commercial ones. That's when I got into the Houston gallery scene, I was in a relationship with a painter, which sparked my love for painting and art history, and I got less interested in fashion's commercial, cyclical nature. Art seemed to carry more weight. I met a lot of people through galleries, found my community there, and found my mentor, [Mark Flood](https://www.google.com/search?q=Mark+Flood&rlz=1C5CHFA%5FenUS1003US1003&oq=Mark+Flood&gs%5Flcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOdIBBzE3NWowajeoAgCwAgA&sourceid=chrome&source=chrome.ob&ie=UTF-8), from Houston, still my favorite artist. I started working for him about eight years ago, then moved to New York in 2019 after graduating from the University of Houston. COVID hit not long after, and the fashion and art practices essentially merged, there was no separating them during that period of constraint. I stayed in New York until 2023, coming back to Texas every couple of months, New York has an energy to it, especially back then. I've been a full-time artist since 2020\. I still do fashion-related and performance projects, and I started making worship music too, an experimental worship album called [Repurposed Religion](https://open.spotify.com/album/36yILicU55r0bS5ut6FeCe?si=AeIQ5RlsSBWgOYNxpq%5FfnQ&ref=theartnewsletter.com), my last eighteen months in New York. I have a record label by the same name. I took seven of my favorite worship songs, CeCe Winans and others, and remixed them with underground electronic producers from around the country. [REPURPOSED RELIGION — Preston Douglas![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/34/b5/34b542d7-662a-4b6d-b229-2d284cd24c37/content/images/icon/favicon-0b08a229-68fd-4d88-9c00-c3319c1479f3.ico)Preston Douglas![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/34/b5/34b542d7-662a-4b6d-b229-2d284cd24c37/content/images/thumbnail/47E8323E-B0B4-4ABA-ABAB-F91BDBD978C3_1_201_a-2f708a12-4501-43d2-b5ed-0e890f3dd65b.jpeg)](https://www.prestondouglasboyer.com/repurposed-religion?ref=theartnewsletter.com) I'd go to these underground experimental electronic clubs in Brooklyn on a Saturday and church on Sunday, and I saw so many parallels: the musical structure, what people were seeking. Different results, obviously: someone doing drugs in the bathroom stall next to me at the club versus someone covering themselves in the blood of Jesus at church, but similar core human longing. I've been that person in the bathroom stall too, for what it's worth. That album came out under the name Preston Douglas Boyer on Spotify, called God's Grace. At the time I hadn't fully accepted Christianity. I was still Christian-curious, not yet reading the Bible, doing morning meditation apps instead of actually reading a chapter and letting the Holy Spirit speak through it. I moved to LA in 2023 with my now-wife, felt a calling to go, so I went. We're still here, though we go back to Houston often, a little harder now with kids. I have a next musical project that's basically been finished for two years — live strings, live choir, people from my church singing on it — called Revival. I spent two years trying to fundraise to stage it properly in Paris or New York, and it just hasn't been God's timing. I was in a studio in Brooklyn with my main producer this week revisiting it, and I had the feeling that maybe I'm just supposed to release the sonic component now rather than wait for the full performance. It's dark, experimental, my wife's a choreographer and dancer, there are clothing and painting elements built around it too. Eventually I want the full performance to happen, but for now I'm excited to just put the sound out there. ![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/34/b5/34b542d7-662a-4b6d-b229-2d284cd24c37/content/images/2026/08/pdb_021526_1.25.webp) **Lay It All Down*, 2026 Dye sublimated charmeuse and Belgian linen, zippers, custom zipper pulls, and mirror on custom aluminum stretcher There's a real conversation happening right now around Christianity and contemporary culture through art, and it isn't just one note: there's room for the polished, hopeful side, and there's room for the darker, harder things to be acknowledged too. Contemporary Christian art isn't only beautiful and glorious. I think about someone like Forrest Frank, who has real lyrics about struggle. What I'm doing is more underground and strange, a different register of the same conversation. And I love finding other Christian artists doing their own version of it, there are a lot of them, at different stages, and I think that's beautiful. I've been thinking a lot about, and honestly writing about, movement I feel part of, called Spiritual Expressionism. You can look back at Hilma af Klint, who was an artist having spiritual revelation and abstract painting really being, in many senses, inspired by God. Kandinsky is usually credited as the first to formalize abstract painting, though people debate whether abstraction predates Hilma, but her relationship with Jesus shaped her practice too. Abstract expressionism, impressionism, post-impressionism: I think a lot of artists right now are tackling Christianity again after it's been something of a taboo in the fine art world for a long time. ![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/34/b5/34b542d7-662a-4b6d-b229-2d284cd24c37/content/images/2026/08/pdb_020926.webp) **Forced Reflection*, 2025 Inkjet and mirror on canvas **Wolfgang:** It's interesting you're a musician too, I didn't see that on your page at first. How do those two worlds connect for you? I ask because I relate: I'm a musician, I run this newsletter, I'm still in school, and I feel like a lot of people are doing a dozen things at once because there's just so much inspiration and so many ways to channel it. **Preston:** A hundred percent. Going back to God — Father, Son, Holy Spirit — Jesus showed up in many ways. Having that core identity as a child of God is what lets me be an artist in the fullest sense: moving across fields and channeling creativity without being bound to one constraint. It's easier for other people to file you under painter, musician, or entrepreneur, but what came out of my fashion years was understanding that I'm an artist first, and there's real freedom in that: I get to do whatever I want. I wouldn't necessarily call myself a musician, though I'm honored when people do, I look like one, apparently, and everyone assumes I am. I'd say I'm a painter, if I have to name the language I communicate in most. But I've played music my whole life, I love guitar and songwriting, and poetry was actually my first art form. Poetry and music are everything to me: I listen to music constantly while I paint. I miss the collaborative nature of fashion, painting is isolating, which I love at times too, but it's part of why I've let myself be a multidimensional artist, because we're multidimensional beings, and Jesus is the most multidimensional being there is. I understand why press, galleries, or institutions need to define you as one thing for a specific reason, you can't be everything to everyone at once, only one person can do that, and I'm okay with that. I also have a water company: [Liquid Life Wellness Water](https://www.instagram.com/liquidlifewellnesswater/?ref=theartnewsletter.com). I'd be at a meeting in New York representing the water brand one day, and the next I'm in a major gallery meeting as "the art guy" who happens to know about water. The original plan was for it to become a bottled water business; it's turned into the first water-focused podcast, called Liquid Life, and at this point it's really a media company. Eventually I'll build out a CPG brand and a hospitality piece around it. It's a wild ride. Like I said about deciding where to live: I do what God tells me to do. Some weeks that's making paintings. Some months it's the water business. Some days are focused on my work with [Piraeus Capital](https://piraeus.vc/?ref=theartnewsletter.com), and helping entrepreneurs build their businesses. ![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/34/b5/34b542d7-662a-4b6d-b229-2d284cd24c37/content/images/2026/08/Preston_Douglas_Church_7_2020.webp) TAKEME2CHURCH, Installation Image Dallas, TX August 2020 curated by Paul Winker I've thought about Duchamp a lot in this context. I saw his show at MoMA: the first rooms are his impressionist and futurist paintings, coming off Picasso and Braque and cubism, and around 1910 he won a major award at the Armory for Nude Descending a Staircase, No. 2\. I got emotional looking at that painting — I'd spent almost a decade thinking about it through reproductions — and seeing the level he was painting at, competing with his peers, and then he abandoned painting entirely in 1914 for conceptual, commercial, and performance work. I think about that: maybe there's a day I stop painting entirely and just do water, or just do music. But for me it's a little different than Duchamp, because I genuinely love painting. If I could do one thing for the rest of my life, it would probably be that. That's why I call myself a painter, even with everything else going on. **Wolfgang:** On the idea of constraint, we often assume the best art comes from having none, being free to express whatever God is telling us. Do you think there's a necessary constraint in your own practice, and if so, what is it? **Preston:** Christianity itself is largely about constraint. From an art-historical, curatorial perspective, when you're in painting school, which I never did, but I dated someone who was, there are constant assignments creating constraints, and what you realize is that's just a condition of being human. We're inherently constrained by our humanity, and there's freedom and free will within that. ![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/34/b5/34b542d7-662a-4b6d-b229-2d284cd24c37/content/images/2026/08/IMG_5061.png) **Untitled*, 2020 There's a quote that came to mind while you were asking: "jack of all trades, master of none." People usually stop there, but the second half is "but often times better than a master of one." I think about painters I love who are incredible at painting but also have some weird side project, a punk band or something, that you'd never know about unless you dug deep enough. A lot of my favorite painters are also genuinely great musicians who never made money at it and never tried to, it was just theirs. With this body of work specifically, the testimony paintings have evolved into what feel like two separate bodies of work within one painting, I can't finish a piece because one element really is its own separate painting. It's been hard to hold real constraints in my practice because I get excited and one thing leads to another. I've been thinking a lot about minimalism over the past eighteen months, specifically because I'm a maximalist by nature, and sticking to material, conceptual, or visual constraints has been genuinely challenging, though the constraint itself often ends up becoming its own thing. **Wolfgang:** Where do you see yourself going next, beyond the next series of paintings? **Preston:** A lot is happening. The testimony series has shifted from gold, purple, brown, and black tones into blue, green, white, and silver, a few variations have come out of that, with mirrors forming the base of some paintings, and raw strands of linen with scratched text. I want to get into public art and public sculpture, spaces beyond the gallery or museum, because the function of art goes beyond the collector's wall. I'm interested in how the work itself can shift the frequency of a space and people's interaction with it. ![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/34/b5/34b542d7-662a-4b6d-b229-2d284cd24c37/content/images/2026/08/IMG_5905.png) **Untitled*, 2020 On the Revival project, we're going to release five tracks on Spotify so people get a sense of it, but I'd genuinely love for the full performance to happen eventually, I don't know when or where, I'm leaving that up to God. Whether it's a museum in Tokyo or somewhere else, I'll know when it's supposed to happen. I'm also excited about larger commercial gallery spaces, and placing work with institutions and collectors, I love every side of the art business, from the studio to wherever the work ends up living. > *REVIVAL is a 30-minute experimental sound project, performance, and installation by Preston Douglas Boyer that continues his ongoing REPURPOSED RELIGION project, exploring faith, doubt, ritual, surrender, and spiritual transformation through painting, sound, fashion, and dance. The performance is structured in three movements—HELL, BAPTISM, and REBIRTH—and driven by an original musical composition of choir vocals, live string instrumentation, and physically created sounds. The project moves from distortion, chaos, and spiritual rupture, through cleansing and surrender, toward renewal, transcendence, and ultimately resurrection. REVIVAL began in 2024, and its sonic component is slated for release on September 3, 2026, across all major streaming platforms.* Hallelujah 0:00 /150.954667 1× **Wolfgang:** What drew you to The Art Newsletter? **Preston:** I saw a video you all did and connected with learning about artists I might not expect to be Christian, thinking through this from a historical perspective. I've felt this shift happening since I started that album back in 2023\. My problem is I tend to be about three years too early to things, I get impatient and move on before something actually arrives. So sitting with the idea that Christianity is the new punk rock, that God is the new punk rock, and watching it become such a huge genre in mainstream music and podcasting, the question is how that actually filters into the visual language of culture, individually, commercially, institutionally. You do it well — you have a high taste level, you're serious about it, and you're young, which is its own thing. You're in Austin, which historically hasn't been a visual-language city either. I know a lot of genuinely incredible visual artists there, and I get excited for Texas generally. I'm actually showing with [Opera Gallery](https://www.operagallery.com/?ref=theartnewsletter.com) right now, they have sixteen locations around the world and just opened their newest one in Houston. It was in the Houston Chronicle and on Yahoo News today, I'm one of eight artists in their new group show, Texas Contemporary, opening in three weeks. That's a big deal. One of the biggest galleries in the world chose Houston, chose my work, and I'm grateful for it. I think we'll end up working together in other capacities down the line, bringing this work into spaces where the Bible has arguably never really been "cool." Think about the most expensive painting ever sold: Salvator Mundi, attributed at least in part to Da Vinci, a painting of Jesus as the savior of the world, sold for around half a billion dollars. That's the history of the relationship between the church, art, and commission: what these works actually meant then versus what they mean now, in a 2026, twenty-first-century sense, is very different, and I want to sit with that difference honestly. At the end of the day, who I am is a child of God, and my purpose is to share God's love with people. I don't want to come at this from "here are the answers, this is the truth," that's not necessarily my role, even though I understand it's someone's role. For me, art is inherently about conversation, about your own perception and understanding. Nothing is more challenging to talk about right now than religion, and my biggest fear is ever coming at these conversations like I've got the right answer and you've got the wrong one. I never want to be that person, and I never want to hurt or offend anyone — but there has to be room for me to speak my own truth and experience, which is what the testimony paintings are really about. They're about beauty, and right underneath that surface, a lot of hard conversations: personal struggle, the meaning of life. I don't know how else to work through that except through art. A lot of people believe very different things, and are willing to die for what they believe. My intention is to create beauty out of my human journey with God, and I hope the work translates that way, for people to meet it where they're at and take what they're able to take from it. The Bible pages won't always be part of my paintings; I've got a decade of other bodies of work that lean more into cultural critique, critique of corporatocracy. Who knows where the work goes next. I'm just excited to see how the current work unfolds. Having kids, paying rent, making art: there's nothing better. I'm living the dream. **Wolfgang:** You mentioned being early to things before, the fashion brand before everyone had one, and now feeling three years early to Christianity being the new punk rock. Looking three years ahead, what does that actually mean to you? **Preston:** Punk rock, to me, is inherently counterculture — counter-narrative, counter-understanding — with real truth and resonance underneath it. And Jesus has always been the most punk rock figure there's ever been. Think about his actual life. There's nothing more punk rock than that. Who knows where it all goes. It's been about two years now of me being genuinely open about this journey, becoming a father, studying the word, getting obsessed with it, wanting to be some kind of self-taught biblical scholar even though reading isn't naturally how my mind processes things. Getting into the weeds of it, the Book of Enoch, all of it, has been endlessly interesting to me at this point in my life. Jesus is punk rock, and that spirit runs through all of it. **Wolfgang:** Being from Austin myself, I think it's had its moment and maybe that's fading a bit, but I think Houston is often overlooked, even though there's a real low-key richness of art and museums and culture there that people from the coasts tend to underestimate. Have you run into people overlooking you because of your Texas roots? **Preston:** A hundred percent, and that's exactly what the [Opera Gallery](https://www.operagallery.com/event/texas-contemporary-art-exhibition?ref=theartnewsletter.com) show is addressing. It's a sentiment that didn't really exist for generations of artists before me, I think because of the internet and social media shifting how people understand cultural impact and history. The Menil Collection, for instance — arguably the first truly special private institution outside New York or LA, maybe the best private institution of the twentieth century, with a genuinely singular vision around surrealism. The only freestanding Cy Twombly museum in the world is in Houston. My first real experience standing in front of that final Twombly painting, on the right as you walk in, is what made me think, I need to paint. I had another spiritual experience later with a painter named [Gael Stack](https://www.google.com/search?sca%5Fesv=0e19691f42d31c34&rlz=1C5CHFA%5FenUS1003US1003&sxsrf=APpeQnv6IE9w0xMBB-wAt9LPDOWQK4kgdw:1787526880964&q=Gael+Stack&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiinJDG8LeWAxXwl2oFHQCIH-0Q7xYoAHoECA0QAQ&biw=1336&bih=677&dpr=2.2&ref=theartnewsletter.com), who passed away recently in her late eighties, another moment in that same gallery where I realized painting has the power to actually transform a space, to change the frequency of someone's experience in it. DJ Screw, and so many other artists who've collaged things sonically and physically, historically people haven't seen the full impact Houston has had across art forms. I think we're finally getting our recognition, and I love it. I love Houston. It'll always be home no matter where I live. I consider myself a Texan first, and Texans are inherently punk rock: if you're a Texan, you're your own breed of person. I relate to Texans more than almost anyone else. There's a wildness in us. **Wolfgang:** Besides feeling God call you there, how has your experience in LA actually been, and what led you there over New York or Houston? **Preston:** We did our first Repurposed Religion performance here in LA not long after we moved: we arrived in August 2023, and the performance was that October, two months later. Dancers, a full collection built around it. Part of the move was just having more space and room to grow what I'd been building in New York. The palette of Los Angeles changed everything — the mountains, the ocean, the greens and blues and browns. In New York I made almost entirely black-and-white work for a stretch, very graphic and hardcore, even what I wore was mostly black, in Houston too. Here in LA people think I look like a cult leader in all-white and tan. I don't think I would have pushed past that comfort zone otherwise. There's a saying that you can't be a prophet in your hometown, I don't mean that to suggest I'm a prophet, but what you do can carry more weight somewhere you're uncomfortable and unknown, pushing against a system you're not embedded in. Over the past seven years we spent more than half of last year back in Texas. LA is great, and it's also a good in-between of New York and Houston. I have the fantasy of eventually living in Austin, Dallas, or Houston again, who knows. I can make art anywhere, I've had stretches without a stable home and still made the work. Whatever season I'm in has something to teach me, and that always comes through in what I make. **Wolfgang:** Thank you for all of this, I've genuinely loved talking with you. It's been an amazing experience running the newsletter, connecting with people I never would have otherwise. We started it about two years ago, almost as a joke, just talking about random art with maybe a thousand subscribers and no real revenue. My co-founder and I were both busy, both in school, and at one point we almost stopped. But I felt like God was telling us to keep going with the Christian angle specifically, and the reception since then has been really encouraging. Was it scary for you to take a similar leap, given how much art content is already out there and how specific your niche is? **Preston:** That's exactly how I felt. I looked around and found a few things online, but nothing with a real social presence around Christianity and contemporary art specifically. It felt like uncharted water, I could go wherever I wanted and meet people I never would have crossed paths with otherwise. **Wolfgang:** I relate to your fashion-brand-before-everyone-had-one story completely. Maybe in five years everyone has a Christian art newsletter, who knows, I'm just glad to be early to it. Tensions are rising, do you feel it? If you do, good. This is often evident whatever you are doing is working, angering the very one, (the antithesis, the opposer, the (many) satan) who is attempting to hold you back in the first place. God does have a plan for your life, it is not up to you or I or anyone to tell you what that is, only that it is often *not* what you expected. But when God places that call upon you and you take up your cross and go after it is only to be expected that you will face the desert which may include temptations, adversary thoughts, negative people, and waning self image. Know that you are not alone in the body of believers. And that one, who is our very lord has gone through much worse in the desert, than you will ever experience, and he always gives you an out because "There hath no temptation taken hold of you but such as is common to man. But God is faithful; He will not suffer you to be tempted beyond that which ye are able to bear, but with the temptation will also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it." but when suffering is too great, remember to call upon him and let him guide you towards the path he has set out before your life was ever born. If you don't feel this, maybe its not your time, you may be in a season of joy, or maybe you are still figuring it out (which does one ever really figure anything out) again, know there is a body of believers and you are not alone. A word of advice (My own brain often works against me, one of the brilliant quirks God imbued upon me. so I do this myself) Sometimes its okay to walk outside, take a break, *touch grass* as they would say. Refresh your thoughts and come back clear headed. These resident thoughts are mine and rambling but in sync with the times we live. I leave you with a quote from the great C.S. Lewis. "There is no safe investment. To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket—safe, dark, motionless, airless—it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. The alternative to tragedy, or at least to the risk of tragedy, is damnation. The only place outside Heaven where you can be perfectly safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love is Hell." **C.S. Thank you and God Bless, — Wolfgang & Jesog Co Founders The Art Newsletter ### Should You Even Be a Christian Artist? URL: https://www.theartnewsletter.com/should-you-even-be-a-christian-artist/ Last updated: 2026-08-26T13:18:10.000Z I'm a little different than other writers, when I sit down to work out my ideas, whether it's for a video or one of these articles, I just free-write it out. In the age of AI, when everyone's trying to run a newsletter and do everything, the most honest thing I can do is keep it minimal, minimal cuts to my natural voice, minimal distance between my actual thoughts and what ends up on the page. Not to toot my own horn, but some genuinely influential people in the Christian art and music world have reached out to me and said, "I like the way you think, I'd love to pick your brain on how you come up with ideas," and that's what I want to talk about today. Here's the truth, I'm not much of a thinker. I might seem like I've got things figured out, especially to people who know me personally, I've been told that before, (again, tooting my own horn) but I don't. My own ideas are bad ideas, and it wasn't until I actually aligned myself with what *God's ideas* are that I saw any real success. I think that's the most important thing for Christians, and especially for Christian artists. **Step One: Ask Yourself If You Should Even Be Doing This** If you're a Christian artist wondering how to break out, how to make it happen, the first question isn't strategy, it's whether you should even be a Christian artist at all. (I'm a musician myself, and I have music out, but I don't actually consider myself a "Christian artist," because what I make isn't necessarily Christian music, it has Christian themes, but that's beside the point. This isn't about me. It's about *you*, the reader.) So ask yourself, do I actually play an instrument, do I actually know how to sing? Saying "I sing in my church and I like Christian music" is one thing, but are you a musician, are you an artist? I'm speaking specifically to musicians because that's my background, but this applies across every discipline. If the only thing you listen to is contemporary Christian worship music, you're probably not going to be a great artist, the best artists have wide-open taste, the same way the best chefs aren't picky eaters. (Anthony Bourdain would surely agree) A chef who only likes Italian food, who only makes and eats a couple types of pasta, is never going to know how to experiment or make something new. The people I know with the best taste in music, fashion, and art who are also Christians, they're the ones constantly searching for more, whether it comes from Christian or non-Christian sources. So before you decide to become a "Christian artist," ask, have you actually listened to albums, have you pursued any kind of education in your craft? I started playing piano at ten. I went to college for music composition and got my associate's degree in it, two years of higher education. I played piano through jazz band in high school, and all through elementary and middle school before that and I'm still learning today, I practice almost every single day, because I love music, not just Christian music, because loving God and loving your art form are two different things. You can love God, enjoy singing, and think, "I'm a pretty good singer and I love God, so I should be a Christian artist." Maybe not. Maybe you don't actually make good Christian art, because you haven't really wanted it, haven't really desired it. If you're a visual artist, have you spent time learning to paint? That doesn't require a fancy degree, but it does require time. Have you engaged with your community? I've played hundreds of shows, I've done all kinds of creative projects, and that's what made me feel ready to build something like The Art Newsletter, not because I'm a Christian who happens to like art, but because I actually *live* inside the world of art. My whole world is wrapped up in it, art, fashion, music, design, architecture. It's stitched into my vocabulary. _This post is for subscribers only._ ### Issue 1 URL: https://www.theartnewsletter.com/issue-1/ Last updated: 2026-08-19T20:50:04.000Z **Section 1 - grounding** Art, as we know it, is not actually subject to the laws of physics, the laws of mathematics, the laws of nature, or the laws of human love. Art exists in a realm of three dimensions, and great art extends into the fourth dimension, which is time itself. But little do we think of the fifth dimension that art exists in, and that is the consciousness, the subconsciousness, and the elevated thoughts of human beings that mirror the image of God. That's why sacred art resonates on a higher frequency than regular art. Art that is made to connect one to the divine, in whatever fashion that may be, means more than art that is simply made to just uplift someone or make someone feel one of the many human emotions. Jesus is an artist, but one who allows freedom for his art (human beings, plants, animals, the environment we reside in) to express in itself what it wants to be. I ask what human art is created that gives full freedom to the creation to become either what it was intended to be, or to reject its commands and become something else? That freedom, which is love, is the art that Christ fabricated at the very existence of our universe. I believe that my thoughts about art are more than thoughts of stars in the sky, one (of the many) purposes of my life. A mission that God set before me when my DNA was being divinely knitted in the womb. This first newsletter is here to collect these thoughts into a place where it's easy for one to grasp and understand. These newsletters may at times seem trivial and simple, being here for the purpose of fun, (which we hope it is) but under the surface, there is something greater when we think about art: art that is pointing to something outside of space and time, the one who created time itself. It is us, like mere bruised insects attempting to lift our broken wings up to the sky and fly, wings attached to even the greatest of human creations barely reach off the ground, (we ought to have no fear of becoming Icarus, who tragically flew too close to the sun, for our God is a consuming fire, whose holiness we use to quench our dehydrated souls) compared to the infinite multitude of imagination of our creator. But even with our filthy rags, our art is pleasing to him with proper intention, the intention to be pure to what God has created us to be, our personality. I am glad to have you here. We hope to see you soon. _This post is for subscribers only._ ### Zen Buddhism (and Why I Should Probably Stop Reading The Bible On My Phone) URL: https://www.theartnewsletter.com/zen-buddhism-and-why-i-should-probably-stop-reading-the-bible-on-my-phone/ Last updated: 2026-08-13T15:26:48.000Z A few weeks ago I came across an Instagram Reel where a man was over-analyzing why Chinese teacups don't have handles, something about how the discomfort of holding hot porcelain connects you to the practice of mindfulness. Another creator responded by basically dismantling the theory. Turns out the handle-less design was just a design, it's quite often that the West has a fascination of over-reading mysticism into anything East Asian that it doesn't fully understand. I myself have been a victim of this. I think the second creator was right. But I also think there's a real question buried under the first creator's thoughts, and it's one worth taking seriously rather than mocking. Here in the West we tend to treat Asian philosophical traditions as bottomless wells of meaning while treating Asian technological and design advancements as merely functional, as if depth and utility can't come from the same civilization at the same time. So consider this my attempt to over-analyze carefully, in both directions, (and through my own experiences in Japan) rather than lazily in one. Why does a work of art draw more consideration than something as trivial as a mug, pencil, or dishrag? Why are certain actions in life placed as more important than others? This is the question of the field of "everyday aesthetics," an area of philosophy which focuses its attention on the study and appreciation of sensory, emotional, and artistic qualities in mundane, daily life. Although it is not exclusive to one culture, this area of thought is often associated with Japan, as Japanese philosophers have been working with these ideas within their own tradition for a long time. Yuriko Saito, a Japanese-American philosopher and professor at the Rhode Island School of Design, is a prominent figure here, describing everyday aesthetics as "any reactions we form toward the sensuous and/or design qualities of any object, phenomenon, or activity." I came to this question as a university student who (last year) finished a course on the subject. This caused me to think about how these concepts land in our actual modern lives. Mindfulness, presence, "the art of slowing down," these are terms that get thrown around in the digital landscape without much substance behind them. I, and many of my peers, experience mindfulness as something packaged and distributed by companies, rather than a concept attained through daily practice. But in reading *The Book of Tea* by Okakura Kakuzō (also known as Okakura Tenshin), I found a different perspective, one that might lead toward a more impactful answer. Tenshin argues that "Teaism," what he calls "a cult founded on the adoration of the beautiful among the sordid facts of everyday existence," is a kind of worship of the mindfulness that occurs during the drinking of tea. He writes that tea is more than a drink: "It is the only Asiatic ceremonial which commands universal esteem. The white man has scoffed at our religion and our morals, but has accepted the brown beverage without hesitation. The afternoon tea is now an important function in Western society." The tea ceremony, in other words, is an act that promotes mindfulness, simplicity, and the beauty of mundane life, across borders, regardless of whether the West understood or respected the rest of the philosophy that produced it. This all concluded, for me, in my own mindful action, because it was in reading itself that I found my answer. As I read these works, I realized that reading serves as a true appreciation of the everyday: books in themselves are everyday objects, created for normal people, that combine both Saito's tactile, sensuous experience and Tenshin's mindful concept of Teaism. Reading, specifically reading that brings the combination of joy and knowledge, could serve as a mirror of the guided tea ceremonies of Japan, a kind of "book ceremony": an act that helps us cross the threshold between living and *mindful* living. This is especially true for Christians, as reading the bible is an often ceremonial experience for us. As we enter our favorite reading nooks and open the word with a quiet reverence that places our soul in a position of praise and receiving. I’d argue that the way in which we read matters here, is it on a phone or is it the beautifully worn bible we’ve had for ages with years of highlights and notes. The content doesn’t change but like Virgil Abloh would once said “everything else around it does." _This post is for paying subscribers only._ ### An Invitation to Establish Dominion URL: https://www.theartnewsletter.com/an-invitation-to-establish-dominion/ Last updated: 2026-08-26T13:18:24.000Z *For the creative afraid to step out in boldness, may I remind you that you were given authority to dominate the field you're in. Yes, you.* *You cannot be timid and, by consequence, withhold God from receiving the glory He's rightfully entitled to.* *There is a soul out there that needs to hear your words, immerse themselves in the melodies you composed, behold that painting you worked on in quiet contemplation, or watch the dance you choreographed in awe. In short, I am certain there's a person whose life will forever be impacted by what you create in partnership with the Father. In fact, divine partnership has been what humanity was always made for.* *Your creativity is more than just a label. It's an identity that reflects how you were made in His image.* *Will you continue allowing fear to keep holding you back from doing what God has already ordained you for?* --- ## A Divine Partnership In the beginning, God created… In the beginning, there was the Word… In the beginning, two *poiema (the Greek word for 'masterpiece')* walked with God in the cool of the day. Within the garden, Eden was where heaven and earth met in perfect unison. Unlike the rest of creation where God looked outward and called all things into existence, mankind was birthed into being after God looked inwardly; the very first creation that was made specifically to reflect the image of the Ancient of Days. "So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them." (Genesis 1:27 NKJV) Their forms were both brought to life from the imagination of a God whose appearance exceeds the radiance of a bright morn. It is He — Glory Incarnate who knelt down on the Earth He'd fabricated with the thrum of His voice — who breathed life into bodies of clay. Man. Woman. Fearfully, wonderfully made in the likeness of God. And unto them, a simple yet great command was given: "Have dominion." --- The opening chapter of Genesis is more than a mere recounting of how God shaped the entire world in six days. It is a picture of how God intended to live with his most treasured possession: in perfect unity and partnership. See how God partnered with Adam with the naming of the animals (Gen 2:19-20 NKJV). It was He that made every crawling insect, each prowling beast, every bird and each sea creature, and yet, Adam was given the task to bestow a name for every single one. Furthermore, God went on and commanded Adam and Eve to "be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” (Gen 1:28 NKJV) An honourable position fit for royalty, wouldn't you agree? As the story goes, we know that humanity fell shortly afterwards as illustrated in Genesis 3\. In spite of Adam and Eve's disobedience, it doesn't change this truth: we are His most beloved creation. However, mankind would have to experience life without the fullness of the presence of God dwelling among them. Separation, both spiritually and physically, now prevails when it never had before. Millenniums passed and the consequences of what happened in Eden ensued: wars, famine, plagues, death, etc… All creation cried out in silence and thousands of people joined the chorus, desperate for a deliverer. Jesus came to answer that call and He did so by establishing His kingdom on the Earth. Divinity in human form, the Author of Creation subjected Himself to walk this broken, dust-covered land. In every way, He was tempted and yet never sinned, making Him the perfect Teacher, the perfect Mediator, but most of all, the perfect Friend. How obedient Jesus was to the Father, even to the point of death. An obedience that sought to glorify the Father so that the great chasm between us and Him could be bridged by the river of blood pooling out from the wounds He bore upon that weathered cross. A death meant to humiliate. A death that shook the foundations of the earth itself. A death that challenged the authority of the grave. Yes, a death that — unbeknownst to the powers of darkness and to all that witnessed His crucifixion — would ultimately result in the exaltation of the Son. Jesus ascended from the Earth, having received all authority in heaven and on earth. With that same authority, this great man commissioned all who followed Him to train others in His teachings and to baptize them in His name. And for the first time since the Fall, the Spirit of the Living God was sent to dwell in the hearts of all who believed in Him. This was not the end of the story. It was the beginning of a new age. _This post is for subscribers only._ ### break the mold URL: https://www.theartnewsletter.com/break-the-mold/ Last updated: 2026-09-04T19:42:02.000Z ### This playlist features Christian music you probably won't hear anywhere else. Listen to the playlist on youtube [here.](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLV2jvRYF7KXY&si=6eunKg3JIGnbUFbV&ref=theartnewsletter.com) If you are ready you can go ahead and dive straight in and start listening, but for those who want a little more background on the qualification for a song to land here, I will break down my methodology. Before I say what this music is, I must first say what this music isn't — this is not praise and worship music per se (although some songs may fit within that classification). The only methodology I use to create this playlist is that the artist is making the song for God, which could mean outright praise or something more contemplative. For the skeptics, it's important to remember that Job cursed the day he was born (Job 3:1), and even Christ our Lord quotes from Psalm 22:1 when he cries out to the Father. I believe an artist's ability to open up raw emotion into their music is what separates the general genre of worship music from the broader idea of Christian music, and from the even more expansive idea of music with Christian and spiritual lyrics and meaning. Which is where this playlist sits. For music journalism. For literature. For design. No publication exists right now dedicated to covering contemporary art, music, film, and literature from a Christian perspective, not devotional content, not sanitized reviews, but actual criticism, actual conversation, about what Christians (and those often mislabeled non-Christian) are making and why any of it matters. No platform built to find the best Christian artists working today and give them the attention they're due. That's the gap we're trying to close. Not with more content, but with real criticism — writing that treats faith and art as serious enough to argue about, not just celebrate. That takes real writers, and real writers get paid.
